How to Add Successor and Predecessor In Primavera P6

 Successor and Predecessor
A predecessor is an activity whose start or finish controls start or finish of another activity. And a successor is an activity whose start or finish is controlled by start or finish of another activity. In process of determining relationships between activities, predecessor and successor activities are identified first and then they are given a relationship type, for example Finish to Start.
How To Assign Successors?
Add Successors to  Activity select the activity and right Click on the activity then Go to the Assign option and Select the Successors.

When You Select A Successor A new Screen is open on a window that is given Below in my case i want to assign  Activity ID A1020  as  a Successor of A1010. Before Assigning A Successor yo have not seen any relationship on a graph when you add a Successor or Predecessor an arrow is show on a graph that is indicate the Relationship between activities.

On this screen I select ID  A1020 and select the Plus Sign that mention in a Circle .
A Successor is Added and the Right Side of Screen An Arrow Represent the Relationship Between the Software ins  and maintenance .
4)
Add the Predecessor to activity yo can follow same step as it is when you add successor.

Oraganization Breakdown Structure:
An organizational breakdown structure is a document that your business can use in conjunction with its workflow schedule and resource breakdown to organize the people who will be working on a particular project. The OBS details who reports to whom, the details of the hierarchy and the reporting structure.

 How To Add OBS in Primavera P6??

First of all go to the Enterprise Option and then Select the OBS.

when You Select The OBS a Below Window is Display On a Screen
you can see easily Close , ADD , DEL/Merge , CUT, COPY option.
By Clicking On ADD Button Yo can add new OBS

 When You Assign Proper Name To your OBS , you can separate easily your new OBS by Clicking On a option that mentioned in Circle TOP SHIFT, DOWN SHIFT, LEFT SHIFT AND RIGHT SHIFT, after Separate your OBS You can add more OBS by clicking on add button and make a hierarchy  of your Organization

How to Genrate Report in Primavera P6

How to genrate Report
1) First go to the tools option select the report option.
After the selection of report you can see the whole documnts of your project.

2)- Select the desire file and right click on the file go to the run option and select the report
Below I select EP-04 EPS, Project Labor.


3)-After that you can see another screen on this screen you can see diifernt option like
print preview
Directly to printer
Email attachment
HTM File
you can check any desire option that you reqire here i select print preview and then press ok.

Lag and Relationships In Primavera P6

Lag and lead
Lag time is a duration that is added to a relationship link to impose a wait time between an activity and its successor in PrimaveraP6.
A lag is a duration that is applied to a dependency to make the successor start or finish earlier or later.
A successor activity will start later when a positive lag is assigned.Therefour an activity requiring a 3 day delay between the finish of one activity and start of another will require a positive la of 3 days.
Conversely a lag may be negative when a new activity may be started before the predecessor activity is finished .this is called a lead or negative lag.

What is Predecessor and Successor?
A predecessor is an activity whose start or finish controls start or finish of another activity. And a successor is an activity whose start or finish is controlled by start or finish of another activity. In process of determining relationships between activities, predecessor and successor activities are identified first and then they are given a relationship type, for example Finish to Start.

Types of Relationships:
There are four types of relationships in Primavera P6.
  • Finish to Start or FS
  • Start to Start or SS
  • Finish to Finish or FF
  • Start to Finish or SF
   
 Finish to start or FS

Predecessor must finish before Successor can start. [Land must be purchased before road building can start].

Start to Start or SS
Predecessor must start before Successor can start. [Road excavating must start before Asphalt can be laid].

Finish to Finish or FF
Predecessor must finish before Successor can finish. [Laying Asphalt must be complete before line painting can be completed].

Finish to Finish or FF
Predecessor must finish before Successor can finish. [Laying Asphalt must be complete before line painting can be completed].

How to add new Calendar in Primavera p6

How to add new Calendar.
Add the new calendar into your project or modify the calendar for this purpose go to the enterprise option and select the Calendar.



Three type of calendar available in oracle Primavera.
  • Global
  • Resource
  • Project

Global:

The Global calendar contains calendars that can be used by all projects are available for all resources and activities.

Project:
Contains a separate calendar dedicated for each project  and available for the current project only

Resource:
A resource calendar is a calendar that is used to reflect specific working hours, vacations, leaves of absence, and planned personal time for individual resources. A resource calendar differs from a base calendar in that it only reflects working and non-working times for individual resources.

For New Calendar click on the add button and a new screen is open, on a new screen different option  are available  you can select according to the working criteria of your project in per week and then click in the + sign that are mention in circle and you have done new calendar .
assign a proper name into your calendar and below screen  i have three calendar .

  • Microsoft Project
  • Oracle P
  • Web Project

After that
click the calendar that you are created and select the modify option you have another screen.
at this screen you manage the whole month schedule in which day you will work and how much work etc.

How to create Resource.

Go to the main menu and click the enterprise you have view list of different field select the resources option .


After the Selection of resources  you can see the new window Click the + sign that mention in circle and assign a resource and give a proper resource id, Resource name, and Resource Type.

Activity 

Activities are the fundamental work elements of a project. They are the lowest level of a work breakdown structure (WBS) and, as such, are the smallest subdivision of a project that directly concerns the project manager. Although you can divide activities into steps, an activity's primary resource is typically responsible for managing and tracking the progress of an activity's steps, while the project manager is typically responsible for managing and tracking the progress of the overall activity.  (for Oracle Primavera Training please visit this link:http://asipt.net/oracle-primavera/)
You can define the following information for an activity:
  • Activity ID and name, which enables you to uniquely identify and describe the activity
  • Activity starts and finish dates
  • Activity calendar
  • Activity type, duration type, and percent complete type, which are used to specify which calendar applies to an activity; whether an activity is a milestone; how to keep an activity's unit values, duration values, and resource units/time values synchronized; and how to calculate an activity's percent complete
  • Activity codes and values, which enable you to classify and categorize activities
  • Constraints on the activity's scheduled start and finish dates
  • Expenses
  • Predecessor and successor relationships, which are used to define relationships with other activities
  • Work products and documents and deliverables
  • Resources
  • Notes, which are used to communicate with the resources working on an activity
  • When connected to a P6 Professional database: Feedback, which is used to communicate with the resources working on an activity
  • Roles, which enable you to identify skill requirements for staffing the activity
  • Steps, which divide the activity into smaller units
  • Work breakdown structure element
Different way to add activity in your project by using oracle primavera but i mention very short cut method in below.
select your project or component of your project called (WBS).
then right click and select the add option
when you select the add option  an activity added into your project and you can assign proper name and code to that activity.
